Modernizing the electric grid to advance clean energy
The electric grid needs a strong backbone of transmission lines to support the transition from fossil fuel power plants to a cleaner grid powered by renewable energy and batteries. Transmission enables electrification of vehicles and buildings, and ensures reliability during extreme weather events. However, a number of barriers have stalled the development of the grid and delayed the connection of renewable energy and storage resources.
EDF is addressing the policy pain points that limit electric transmission planning and buildout at a critical moment in the energy transition.
In the United States, we are pushing for reforms at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and Department of Energy and leveraging the historic investments of the Inflation Reduction Act and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. These reforms and investments can drive robust transmission buildout to ensure that the clean energy transition benefits all communities and addresses inequities of the current grid by broadening access to affordable, reliable, clean energy.
Staff perspective
When our electric grid is wired for clean energy, Americans will enjoy more reliable, healthy, and affordable energy for decades to come.
